ALL-NEW BMW F 450 GS has just been unveiled
In this article we discuss the long-awaited BMW F 450 GS unveiling in 2025, a true GS resembling its bigger sibling, filling the gap between the small and big GS. We discuss all technical aspects, design, price and the verdict is can BMW deliver what we want.

Intro:
The sales of 400 cc bikes skyrocket thanks to their offering of power, price and appeal to new riders and A2 license holders in some countries, a trend of downsizing their bigger machines for more economy and a light riding feel. That means the new addition of the BMW GS Light Twin is a profit in terms of sales as it catches up to the widely popular and capable bigger GS ADVs, but it’s lighter and more accessible. The new F450GS is BMW’s first parallel twin, which gets an unusual firing pattern and optional centrifugal clutch to eliminate the clutch lever. This new adventure bike is now aimed at the mid-size 400-500 cc market, with the F450GS BMW Motorrad presenting a genuine mini GS that embodies the pure essence of bigger GSs. Due to its low weight, good performance, and balance between stability and power when you hit the throttle, you gain max confidence and agility and ensure an intuitive adventure ride. This was BMW opening doors to a completely new generation of riders. Riders who admired the GS but never wanted to carry a motorcycle around that weighed more than their car. Riders who wanted a daily ride, not fatigue.
“What if an adventure bike did not have to be intimidating or big? The story of the BMW F 450 GS starts not with the thump of a big 1300cc giant, but with the silent, light and delibarate craftsmanship of idea shrink the GS fun without shrinking its soul.”

A brief history of the GS:
Bmw GS name is old, stretching back four decades, but for years the range followed the same pattern: big boxer engine, big bodywork and tank and big price. The GS was the motorcycle equivalent of a big SUV-large, powerfull but not for everyone.
Then the world changed City traffic exploded, new young riders wanted motorcycles without having to mortgage their homes. New brands entered the adventure bike market. And manufacturers —from KTM or Triumph —started shrinking their top machines to lighter, more versatile packages. Then BMW teamed up with TVS India to work on all mew platform. Not borrowed from bigger GS then we got GS310, a GS- based single-cylinder bike but they failed to live up to the performance level.
“BMW watched the market observed their tech and waited for the right time. Then F450GS happend, The R 1300GS inspired design tries to push the GS 450 to off-road capability and sporty performance but into a small-capacity agile bike.”
PERFORMANCE — Small Engine, Big Power:
The name is 450 but BMW’s new liquid-cooled parallel twin is 420cc and made by TVS India, a company that actually builds BMW’s uncommon engine, G310 single engine. It’s an uncommon engine not in the choice of capacity but in the use of an odd 135 degree crankshaft, giving an unusual firing order, whereas most parallel twins use a 180 or 270 degree crank and make 48 hp. The stroke is short only 51.6 mm and the bore is 72 mm, with a double overhead cam and 4 valves per cylinder and a high 13:1 compression ratio and a large intake of 29 mm with a 24.3 mm exhaust. The firepower peaks at 8,750 rpm, making 48 hp and 31.7lb-ft of torque, and there’s a balance shaft to smooth out the uneven thrust of unusual firing from the 135-degree crank, reducing vibration.
The new six speed transmission is really something new in the form of an easy rider clutch, which comes standard on the top variant but is optional in other models. It is similar to the SCS of MV Agusta, mixing a centrifugal clutch with normal transmission and a quick shifter, so you do not require using the clutch lever for gear shifts or stopping. It feels like Honda E-Clutch but is simple, not complex tech and parts. The clutch lever remains functional for manual override if the rider needs it.
The new twin-cylinder engine of the GS F 450 boasts a massive powertrain and riding dynamic on-road or off-road, with a lightweight build and plenty of torque and the refined smooth engine gives very responsive power and efficiency making it a widely applicable bike.

Handling and Chassis:
“It has the serious GS look: strong shoulders, tall posture, sculpted beak, and that unmistakable LED stare.”
BMW used a pressed and welded steel frame for its larger F800, 900, and GS R1300 but the F450 is more like the 310GS and uses a steel trellis chassis to reduce weight and make it as light as possible. BMW developed a new tubular steel frame design which uses the engine as a stressed member to maximize the compact body for high riding precision and sharp nimble handling.
It gets a hollow aluminium rear swingarm with a KYB monoshock with progressive damping and preload with a BMW WAD system that increases the stiffness when compression increases. The front also gets KYB upside down 43 mm sets with adjustable rebound and compression settings but only for the Trophy version.
Wheels are cast alloy and come standard, but optional wire-spoked tubeless are also present for more off-road rides; the front is 19 inches and the rear is 17 with 100/90-19 and 130/80-17 tires. Brakes are given by a Brembo 310 mm front disk with a four-piston caliper and 240 at the rear with a single-piston caliper. ABS pro by BMW is used for safe corner braking with the dynamic brake control.

BUILD QUALITY and FEATURES :
BMW offers a suite of standard electronics so all F450 models get the same dash, a large 605 inch color TFT with two display modes and Bluetooth phone connectivity as standard controlled by the left hand, giving you all riding data including modes, calls and navigation. The models get different equipment based on price and level, exclusive and top of the line get a quickshifter, riding modes pro that adds the endure pro setting with guards for hand and engine. The sport and trophy get sports suspension and a tinted screen and aluminium engine guard. Riding modes are Rain, Road and Enduro are standard in all models, designed for max throttle response and electronic help according to riding and road conditions. Trophy GS gets the Enduro Pro, which cuts rear ABS and wheelie control for off-road rides.
Electronics Include:
ABS Pro with cornering ABS, dynamic traction control, dynamic brake control, engine drag control, riding modes Pro, and gear shift assist Pro. Display shows data for lean angle, traction control, breking intensity and riding mode.
“Dashboard is crisp and intuitive with the kind of visual clarity BMW usually only puts on it top-of-the-line bikes. Information is organized, animations are smooth, switchgear clicks with a tactile German confidence. With multiple ride modes adjusting throttle, traction, power delivery, and Shift Assistant Pro for clutch-free fun this is no budget GS this is a smart GS.”
CAPABILITIES :
The F450GS is a bike for sophisticated ergonomics and optimal power, with three seat heights 845 mm, 830 mm and 865 mm and bars that can rise up to 20 mm with an optional bar riser. The footpegs can be have removable rubber for city use but can be pulled out for off-road rides; both the foot brake and gear shifter can be adjusted by 20 mm for seated on-road and off-road standing rides. The 14-liter tank is small for an ADV, but the new engine gives an impressive fuel economy of 74.3 mpg, extending its range up to 227 miles.
The centrifugal gives an advantage; it remains closed during manual run, giving a predictable and familiar handling. Engine braking is maintained during standstill. When idle speed is reached the clutch opens automatically. ERC gives confident handling in complex situations, in turns, city rides, and offroad and Gear Shift Assist Pro with ERC makes up-and-down shifts clucthless.
“At 178 kg, light clutch, narrow turning radius, nimble handling good for the city, power with stability that feels bigger than its displacement, and a comfortable seat and an ergonomic posture, the F450 is also fuel-efficient and economical, making it perfect for long-distance touring. ”

RIVALS:
Recently the market of midsize bikes has gone up, with lots of single-cylinder and twin bikes in the 400-500cc segment. Bikes in this segment are the KTM Adventure 390, Triumph 400, Kawasaki Voiser 300, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, and Honda NX 500, but it depends on the customer what they want. But clearly in terms of power and tech no one closed to the F450GS for now.
PRICING and AVAILABILITY :
Pre-orders have start at BMW Motorrad showrooms for token amounts, signal a launch cycle that’s ready. Pricing has been engineered to be competitive for the new wave of mid-segment adventure bikes worldwide. It aspires to sit around the premium side of the 400–500cc market—not cheap, not outrageous, but aspirational with justification. Deliveries are expected to begin in the early part of the new season once BMW initiates the rollout in 2026.
PROS and CONS —
What Makes It Shine : The BMW GS name has been at the core of ADV segment for decades, and F450 targets the growing midsize market.
PROS :
Engine is exactly 48 hp, and the GS’s 178 kg weight makes a good power to weight ratio a perfect balance of city usability and adventure, true GS DNA in a light weight approachable format.
Full of tech that is rarely seen in this segment, with 4 model options with a premium build.
Engine is powerful, smooth, & refined with rider friendly ergonomics and comfort.
CONS :
Higher trims get the best features but the cost rises fast, and some models are not design for hardcore extreme off roading.
The touring range could be high with a bigg fuel tank and new platform means long-term feedback is still to come.
The bike’s height is on the higher side and could be difficult for a short rider.

FINAL VERDICT —
BMW has a strong grip on the ADV market with big machines, but a new and increasing number of riders are abandoning their big machines for small easy bikes, like KTM and Honda, so the F450 is much needed bike in the BMW lineup. It’s not just an entry-level ADV to fill the gap between the 310 and 900 GS. This is the GS for a new generation of riders. The new machine more closely resembles the big GS, with an F450 ground-up redesign for the sub-500 cc range, its design heavily inspired from R 1300 GS.
“BMW F 450 GS feels like that friend who’s always ready to jump on the road. Nimble in tight traffic. Predictable at high speeds. Balanced on twisties. And surprisingly playful on gravel.”
