Jaecoo J5- Interior
Jaecoo J5 Cabin design was nature inspired like it embodies the surroundings of a waterfall and its calm flow, and its reflect throughout the interior. However, some European brands uses this waterfall-style theme for years. The J5’s cabin prioritises practicality and space and follows a minimalist design language. With its light-coloured upholstery and the big glass roof. it’s feels brighter and more welcoming than some riavels.
The glass roof provides a good amount of natural light also increases the airy feel and spaciousness despite its compact size. Most upholstery is covered by silicone-covered synthetic skin, and they claims it’s better at resisting both stains and odours they called it ‘Super EcoClean Skin’. All the panels are fit together tightly. Most are trimmed in soft-touch plastic and contact points wrapped with extra attention.
Almost no physical buttons are in the cabin and it’s heavily reliant on its touchscreen. This provides a clean cabin design but sometimes it’s frustrating during drive, especially to adjust some basic things. A large vertical 13.2-inch touch screen covers the centre dash, and 8.9-inch digital instrument display provides driving data in Jaecoo J5.
The submenus can be scroll by swiping up or down from the edge of the screen, which quickly becomes familiar. The screen sits perfectly with the dash, and the graphics quality is also good but bit slow to respond. There aren’t even too many features, but good news is that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are default which are wireless. You also get a 50W wireless phone charger, two USB-C port for fast charging, bluetooth, digital radio, and voice control are standard, but again, all of this in the touchscreen.
Two-tone color scheme are added in steering wheel. It’s looks a sporty feel. Six-way power-adjustable with heating and ventilation front seats are curved, mildly bolstered. Jaecoo J5 all controls are in touchscreen menu. Both front and rear passengers has plenty of legroom. The under thigh support and knee room are little tight in the second row.
The panoramic roof is big at 1.45m, and gives natural light to the cabin without losing the headroom, and also features an electronic perforated sun blind. Elimination of buttons leads to giving space for large cupholders and a pair of smartphone pads on the central bridge. Additional storage trays also provided in behind and underneath the infotainment screen, glovebox, and centre console are all big.
The second row feels light and airy with plenty of headroom, and legroom is also pretty good. Rear passengers get a single USB-A port – yes only one, as well as an air vent, foldable armrest, door bins, and pockets on the front seat. It also has safe exit warning sensors for rear passengers. Behind the second row there is a generous boot with 480 litres of capacity and easily accessed by the power tailgate. A 35 litres of extra cargo provided under the bonnet in the form of a ‘frunk’.

Performance and Driving:
Thrills and sports are off the chart in the Jaecoo J5 rather it focused on comfort, practicality, and safety. It’s a people’s car not a driver’s car they said. It got the same single-motor and front-wheel drive setup found in the E5 car. Making 155kW and 288Nm of torque and do a zero to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds so the power is decent enough.
Performance is good and best suited for relaxed driving and efficient city commutes. The electric motor is silent and smooth and has enough juice to provide a good acceleration from standstill. The powertrain is silent and gives very comfortable ride in city area, but it have some flaws. Like, initial power delivery lacks traction, and it takes time to move from standstill because of some wheel sleep but very minor.
The steering struggle some time to stay still for a moment due to its lightness in hard acceleration resulting in torque steer, bit unusual for a small size SUV. The steering is too light, and don’t give any feedback from the front wheels feel disconnected, and drive modes – Eco, Normal, and Sport – doesn’t change much of it.
Its lightness is a big advantage in urban driving, changing direction is easy with great accuracy, good for city roads, and also very fast and maneuverable in tight parking situations. Jaecoo J5 EV offers Level 2 autonomous driving ADAS system as standard and gives features like adaptive cruise control and active lane centering, emergency braking and all are switchable via buttons on the steering wheel.
Advanced driver assist systems also works well, adjustments of the safety assists located in the infotainment system are permanent icons. So you don’t need to scroll the menu bar every time you drive makes it more easy and safe. The brake pedal feels bit dull and inconsistent in feedback and also has a sudden delay due to the regenerative braking system.
Jaecoo J5 even counters with an optional menu setting allowing for more pedal feel to minimum, hard and max. Energy recovery by regen braking is difficult when you foot off from the throttle, this resulting in a noticeable, delayed deceleration and feels a bump. But overall it rides comfortably, and is well stable and smooth at highway speeds.
Range:
Energy efficiency is 14.3 kWh/100km, so the 58.9kW battery can deliver a claimed WLTP driving range of 402km which is pretty impressive. With a 130 kw DC fast charging can give a 30% to 80% recharge in just 28 minutes. And the AC charging tops out at 6.6kW making overnight home charging a bit slow.

Jaecoo J5- Safety
The Jaecoo J5 2026 offers a wide array of passive and active safety systems, as standard with this price range. Collision warnings and monitoring sensor in front and back, autonomous emergency braking, and it can stop the car during an emergency, lane keep assistance and departure warnings so the car don’t drift from its lane, and active prevention with emergency intervention takes control for a brief moment.
For more supported driving it has adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection and lane-change monitor to adjacent lanes, and cross-traffic alerts. Also a good quality 360-degree camera and door opening warnings on both row flashes a light, speed limit recognition work with active speed assistance, and a driver monitoring system in dash and works all time.

The second row is bit tight.
Light steering resulting in torque steer.

New brand.

Verdict:
Affordable pricing and a generous spreadsheet can generate interest in the Jaecoo J5 EV among new buyers on a budget. It’s not all perfect – torque steer under high acceleration, and the steering gives no feedback. Inside, the interior is relatively simple and too much lean towards touchscreen.
However, Jaecoo J5 EV is relatively roomy and has plenty of range and suspension tuning is comfortable.
So if you’re looking for an electric SUV and want to remain full in the pocket, the 2026 Jaecoo J5 makes a good option. It isn’t designed for speed, but it delivers an everyday drive car for family in a most economical way and combines space, equipment, and value.
