Zeekr 7 : Overview

The influence of Chinese cars in the market is impressive. In just 10-12 years, the Chinese automotive industry sees a massive growth and completely reinvented itself, from cheap knock-off  to making class leading vehicles. But there are so many players now due to this growth, the usually strategy of them is a fully loaded spec-sheet in a ridiculously low price. In many Asian countries where traffic rules are strictly enforced, roads are full and not perfect.

Most of the cars spend most of their lives in city traffic, so they need a special sort of machine to feel genuinely comfortable and efficient and the Zeekr 7X is that kind of machine. More conventional buttons are given for electric seat adjustment on the seats, including lumbar support, so you can easily find a suitable driving position. A large 16-inch central touchscreen not only work as a infotainment system. It also hosts the majority of the cars functions and features. The screen resolution is crisp with good graphics, and the response times are also fast.

Temperature and fan speed can also be adjusted via buttons on the steering wheel. There are some physical buttons on the dashboard – for opening the glovebox, a volume control knob, for adjusting airflow direction, and a Mode button for driving modes.

Performance: Zeekr 7x

The Zeekr 7X is available in two powertrains across the three model lineup and all 7Xs feature an 800V electrical system. Its super-fast charging capability is one of the best in the class, but in reality some SE Asian countries EV charging infrastructure is not fully developed enough at this point to take full advantage. The basic problem of most EVs is their ride comfort, despite having power and weight to help on bad road surfaces.

But the Zeekr 7X is bit different in this area. Thanks to single-chamber, air-sprung suspension with adaptive damping and wearing 21-inch wheels, the AWD 7X rides surprisingly well, with a controlled plushness from both axels. Driving is also positive, thanks to its well-built chassis and a good driving position. Adjusting the steering column and wing mirrors via touchscreen is bit haptic.

The good quality synthetic leather seats are comfortable. You will feel that you sink into them and bolsters are also supportive. The acceleration was rapid, and the braking performance was stable and good, the steering was heavy enough not too much but could give some confidence, but its lack in feedback and communication with the road surface.

With two electric motors one at front and one at rear, the Zeekr 7x gives combined outputs of 475kW and 710Nm of torque, which more then enough to push this 2.5-tonne SUV from zero to 100km/h in a just 3.8 seconds. Sure, that kind of acceleration claim is like a supercar number. The 7X is more than just about straight-line number. Acceleration is not brackneck rapid, instead forward momentum remains linear and smooth and is predictable.

The adjustable air suspension gives it quite a different character. There are several drive modes also to choose – Comfort, Standard and Sport. They alter the settings of the acceleration, damping, steering and regenerative braking. Sport mode slightly weights up the steering with lower level of assistance, but doesn’t add any more precision in that comfort steering. This mode also increases the throttle response, but there is a little dead spot in power delivery during initial accelerator.

There are also multiple height settings for the air suspension, and an ESC Sport setting. There is not any aggressive steering response in straight line like many EVs, being adjust for 2.7 turns lock-to-lock for its 11.6m turning radius. But also it doesn’t lack in agility in aggressive changes of direction and it smoothly handle that.

Zeekr 7x feels calculated and well-balanced, effortlessly gives a super ride quality. With some throttle push you back into the soft leather seats and the level of traction is superb give good amount of grip, with no wheel spin during launch or in corners. AWD carries more speed in corners with stabilty, and the level of refinement in the faster pace was largely reflected in the head-up display rather than a flashlight.

There’s some amount of body roll–due to the extra speed and traction. However, because it’s not a high-performance car. This car manages its weight well on its air suspension, especially around 2500kg SUV. The four-piston Akebono with the regenerative braking system works well gives a excellent stoping power. And not too aggressive, but in the Comfort mode they work more well and offers more steering adjustment than the heavier Sport setting.

The air suspension and auto controlled dampers flat out pebbly gravel roads well on the also helped by the big wheels. The ground clearance from 172mm to 232mm, with the off-road system shuffling the right amount of torque between each axle. Large potholes and bumps were easily covered, and this was as close with its performance on suburban roads or city streets.

In the Off-Road mode, it turns off the parking sensors and other systems to prevent fals alarms in deep terrain.

The Zeekr 7x is very comfortable companion in any driving situations, with its quiet, refined and an easy-to-drive manner.

Verdict :

It has some drawbacks like lack of physical climate controls, and mirror operated by the screen.

It drew attention of the driver and also the steering wheel adjustments. Other than the auto-opening doors via sensors are also sometimes give more trouble. If they made these doors an option, or even remove is better. But overall the Zeekr 7xX delivers good value with its very smart design.
