Polestar 2

Introduction: Polestar 2

The Polester2 is the first and most successful model of the Swedish electric vehicle brand. The electric liftback car has just received another update to keep it fresh in first place. It launched globally in 2020 the Polestar 2 is largely unchanged for many years at least on the surface. There have been slight cosmetic changes here and there. Only most significant change is the switch from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive for single-motor variants. It’s still a very niche vehicle.

For 2026, the Chinese-owned brand has rolled out some minor tweaks. Big among them is a new Qualcomm Snapdragon processor a new battery pack with much faster charging. The ‘Long range Dual motor Performance’ variant now has offerings and includes the optional Plus Pack as standard, while rear-wheel drive ‘Long range Single motor’ variants remain the same.

Design:

Polestar 2’s design is always very good and simple and it has aged fine and matured over the years. The brand is a part of Geely group and this car is based on Volvo’s all-steel CMA model platform. The original design is for the Volvo not for the Polestar. So it still has clean lines, iconic lightning signatures, plus a tough stance like a muscle car.

At just over 4.6 metres long and under 1.5 metres tall, it sits somewhere between hatchback and saloon for the size. It offers a slightly raised ride height and seating position but it doesn’t have the huge proportions or the extended roofline like an SUV.

The new blanked-out grille insert is well suits the character of this car and also aligns with the Polestar design language. For 2026 there are no any major changes to the exterior. There’s a new sandy-like ‘Dune’ exterior paint and a set of new 20-inch forged alloy wheel design for the Long range Dual motor model.

Polestar 2

Nearly identical to before a visually simple and very minimalist design and it also ageing very well. There are very few physical buttons inside, but you get indicator and wiper stalks and physical switches for the windows and mirror adjustments. It offers a very ergonomic seating positions with clean, comfortable interior.

Technology is key of the Polestar 2, and the dash reflects it features a 11.15-inch portrait-style infotainment touchscreen. Which has the control for the entire vehicle. So at the starting a full system reset is very important. And it can be done by holding down the ‘home’ button on the screen. Lots of entertainment options are available here, but that Apple CarPlay is only wired via a USB-C ports under the central display.

The Polestar’s built-in Android Auto system comes with Google, so the Android phone users will feel more happy. It’s also get the new Qualcomm processor here, which makes screen much fast in terms of both loading times and response. While the cockpit like design is very pretty, but the cabin space is bit compromised in.

This is due to the centre console which is aggressively angled upwords reducing the driver and front passenger space. On the top-spec variants you also get the Bowers and Wilkins sound system, with the lone tweeter perched on the dashboard. This system is very clear and crisp, and you can customize the sound for various spaces and tones.

On the bottom of the touchscreen you’ll find climate-related controls, on top are various shortcuts and vehicle settings. Polestar’s black and orange buttons are distinctive, and the menus are very easy to navigate and read, as are the instrument display. The instrument screen is simple with stripped-back speedometer and power meter, as well as other basic information.

It can be controlled by the button on the steering wheel and it also has the native maps integration. Seats are Swedish design and very supportive, the fabric trim has more options and heating is standard. The more expensive nappa leather has active ventilation for better cooling and has large degree of electric adjustment. The leather-wrapped of steering wheel is high quality, with a good diameter and thickness.

Bit on the chunkier side, other things, like the armrests, are also appropriately padded. You got two cupholders in the front, one is exposed and the other is inside the central storage bin. There are deep bottle holders in the door cards, slots in the sides of the center console, a big passenger-side glovebox, and a wireless charging pad below the centrel consol. The back seat comfort is ok but not great, with a rear bench, high floor, and small windows.

There’s a huge transmission tunnel which reduce the legroom, but the second-row amenities still have air vents, two USB-C ports, as well as a fold-down armrest with cupholders. The boot is acceptable but not very good only 366-litre boot and a 41-litre frunk.

The cargo floor is flat, and you get a storage net to keep smaller items captive. There’s also an under-floor and it’s bit deep, and use to storing the car’s charging cable. A powered tailgate is standard across the range, unfortunately, there’s no spare wheel. The Polestar 2 can tow up to 1,500kg, which means you can tow a big trailer or a small caravan.

Powertrain:

Polestar 2 Multiple powertrains are available across the range, and a hepty 41-litre storage bonnet in all variants are standard. There are 2 different battery sizes are also available, with rear wheel or all-wheel drive. The base single motor variant uses a new 70kWh nickel manganese cobalt  battery from Chinese manufacturer CATL. It gave max driving range of 554km. and DC fast-charging rate is 180kW. There are some mechanical changes to the remaining three variants.

The single-motor trim is rear-wheel drive and produces either 200kW or 220kW, depending on the battery pack. Long range dual motor use and a front electric motor that gives total system outputs to 310kW and 740Nm and can do the 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The performance pack gives the output of 350kW and makes the 0-100km/h time in just 4.2 seconds.

Long range model also use the CATL-sourced 82kWh lithium-ion battery with between 568km and 659km of max range. While the AC charging rate remains at 11kW across the line-up. This means a 10 to 80 per cent charge take just 26 minutes for DC or AC. The Long range dual motor performance models energy consumption rate is roughly 26kWh/100km. While in a Long range single motor is more efficient rated around 15kWh/100km.

Drive and Performance:

The driving dynamic is much the same, there’s still no start/stop button, which will be a surprise for those who are unfamiliar with Polestar 2. So you just go inside the cabin and put your foot on the brake to start the car. Finding a comfortable driving position is very easy, and then put the gear selector and press the accelerator. You’re ready to go, and you’re blown away by the refinement and instantly-available torque.

There’s not much road or wind noise to be heard at low speed, apart from that only mild electric motor sound. Using the tech is easy while on the move. Its simplistic graphics and the car’s minimalist layout is also a key point of easy driving, and it’s incredibly easy to adjust and dial everything. The screen’s shortcut settings bring the driving and vehicle options.

You got three levels of settings for the steering weight and regenerative braking, an on/off switch for auto-hold, Sport Mode button, and that’s all. You can also adjust the car’s safety-assist tech to your like, but there’s no need of that, because all the systems are well-calibrated. The driving settings for the steering works well, but the regen braking levels too strong so adjustment is required.

Many people not like one-pedal driving, so you can disable it, though it works very well. In real world it’s a nice car to drive, it got the long range, it’s appropriately quick, nimble and tackle the corners easily. It can do a 0-62mph time of 4.7 seconds very impressive for a car that weight over 2 tonnes. So performance is very strong during hard accleration from standstill.

There’s no aggressive pushback that you’ll find on other vehicles instead it feels like a mild laid-back. The Polestar 2 handles well but the single motor rear-wheel drive model is the most fun and more engaging to drive. If you push it into a tight turn and the rear-end slightly pivots. But never out of control the normal Brembo brakes are strong. Sport Mode spice things up by increasing the stability control’s intervention time.

The Long range dual motor performance is entire new car feels more like sports car. With massive power and all-wheel drive it has the most brutal acceleration form the lineup and massive traction. Yet most satisfying when it comes to handling. It comes with manually adjustable Öhlins dampers but needs a spanner to adjust the 22 levels of firmness, but it brings a noticeable chassis change over the rest of the range.

If they adjust correctly they give a good balance between comfort and handling. The grips of the rubber are impressive and give confidence during high-intensity driving and never fell any major traction loss. Its steering is also responsive, and it has a good weighting in heaviest setting. It provides good mix of stability and feedback, and it can quickly change direction without hesitation.

Driving this car is mostly a very comfortable experience and ride comfort is generally good, although the suspension feels slightly firm on bumpy roads, and the combination of 2,123 kg weight means that you can feel bumps. Driving on the highway speeds is very quiet and refined, adding to the premium feel.

The interior features a minimalistic design dashboard which is easy to reach. The seat adjustability it has is pretty you’re able to sit lower. When blended with the wraparound cockpit design and centre console, you really feel good about being cocooned. The Polestar 2 has frameless interior and exterior mirrors. They not only look good, they also give good view. The A-pillars are very narrow, which helps at crossings.

Verdict: Polestar 2

The Polestar 2 is not changed very much with this update. Its maker decided to not reinvent the car again because it’s already pretty accomplished car by itself. With some minor improvements to the tech, powertrain and a handful of new features. The Polestar 2 gets a new life of refinement to further boost its credentials as premium EV.

The new battery and motor gives it more meaningful improvements of performance, cruising efficiency, longer range, fast charging speed, and both handling balance. It has retained its minimalist and simple design appeal inside and out, and the level of premium material in the cabin and cargo practicality can compare with the most spacious mid-sized rivals.

Its screen-based interior layout is very easy to use and you quickly adapt. It offers plenty of options for entertaining on the road. The main conclusion that it’s a very stylish car with great performance with excellent tech. This car is also a niche car to drive, so if anyone likes Scandinavian minimalism, practicality, and cutting-edge technology, they should consider a Polestar 2.
